It has long been established that asbestos is a harmful substance. Exposure to the product can result in a person contracting mesothelioma, a severe form of cancer.

Despite restrictions being placed on its usage, asbestos is not completely banned in the U.S. As a result, it may still be found in certain products and locations. It may be in your best interests to recognize some of the more frequent places this dangerous substance can be located. Outlined below are three of the most common places to find asbestos.

Ceiling tiles

Ceiling tiles may consist of something called an asbestos insulation board (AIB). This product was typically used for fireproofing and is commonly found in ceiling tiles. A particularly dangerous aspect about ceiling tiles is that it can be difficult to tell the difference between tiles that contain asbestos and those that don’t.

Cement

It often comes as a surprise, but asbestos was once used frequently in cement mixtures. It was thought that by using asbestos, a much stronger final mixture could be created. Again, the most dangerous aspect of this is that it can be problematic to tell the difference between cement that does and does not contain asbestos.

Insulation

It is possible that asbestos has been used in insulation for both residential and commercial properties. This means that it may be present in floorboards, walls, and loft materials. Asbestos in this form is especially dangerous because it has the potential to become loose.

Asbestos exposure can have a catastrophic impact on your health. Therefore, it is important to recognize some of the more common risks of exposure. If you have been exposed to asbestos in the past, then there may be legal options open to you.
